One Loop Connection Lost on all disks after move of EVA4100

Hello,

We have recently moved our EVA4100 unit from one rack to another, including cabling, and since reboot ALL disks are showing "One loop connection lost" (see attached image)

Is this an issue with the disks themselves or the cabling?

I have read that it can be due to one of the following:

1. EVA not being restarted in the correct order

2. Issue with connection on back of EVA

3. Disks needing to be reseated.

Does anyone know of any steps we can follow to resolve this issue?

Kind regards

Hi

as you have moved the EVA from one rack to the other

I would check all cables are seated correctly.

from your options only the second one is possible

If you can I would shutdown the EVA check physicaly all cables are in there

place and corectly in cabled. and power on.

if not just go over all cable connections.

HP StoreVirtual Storage (Network RAID10)

Good day,

I have a small question, I cannot find the storage space calculator for below config, so hopefully somebody can help me out.

Current configuration:

2x HP Letfhand P4000, 2x HP Lethand P4200:

  1. Raw Space:  3.27 TB
  2. RAID (Hardware): 5
  3. Usable Space: 2.8 TB
  4. Provisioned Space: 2.59

Currently:

  • Network Raid10 2-way mirror
  • Total Space: 11.5 TB
  • Available Space 0.88 TB
  • Utilization: 92%
  • Disks: (Thick) Full provisioned

What will happen if I add the next SAN node number 5 (HP Lethand 4300) on the same config, or what will the Utilization be?

Best regards,

Henry van der Leer

Unsupported Drives Error - EVA P6000

Hello Everyone,

I have a HP P6350 controller that is connected to a storageworks D2600 disk enclosure. The enclosure appears in my command view software, but when I try to initialize the disks, it says "Error, drive is unsupported." and all of the drives light up amber.

The controllers are both HSV340 controllers connected via Mini-SAS to the disk enclosure. These controllers are running firmware: 11001100. The drives are all MB2000FBZPN  running the latest firmware. They all appear OK and operational before initializing, but display a failed state when attempting to initialize. These drives have been tested and working on other systems.

There are no further errors that the system gives me, so I am a little stuck here. Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Jamie

Even they look the same, drives for EVA (P6000) and servers are not interchangeable.

P6000 drives are different, they have different firmware. So you cannot use server disks with a P6000.

Hello,

a D2600 disk enclosure is not supported behind an EVA Controller. You need a M6612 enclosure for the P6350 Controller.

The backend looks the same. Please check also the partnumbers of the drives.

Only these drives are supported:

HP M6612 450GB 6G SAS 15K 3.5-inch HDD AP871A
HP M6612 600GB 6G SAS 15K 3.5-inch HDD AP872A
HP M6612 2TB 6G SAS 7.2K 3.5-inch HDD AW590A
HP M6612 3TB 6G SAS 7.2K 3.5-inch HDD (requires XCS 11001000 or later controller firmware) QR479A
HP M6612 4TB 6G SAS 7.2K 3.5-inch HDD (requires XCS 11001000 or later controller firmware) C8R31A

I need the HSV450_event_CR2306_11300000.txt parsefile.

HSV450 is an EVA8400. You can use the firmware file, you probably still have it , filename is 450_11300000.sss.

D2600 firmware on a M6612

The chassis and controller part numbers appear to be the same so what is different between the two? Can I put the D2600 firmware on a enclosure that was originally a M6612? Trying to do the update shows no supported hardware found.

Thanks

What controller would support these drives and this enclosure to create a SAN?

3PAR 7200C Mixed hard drive capacity

Hi

      I have Cage0 (300GB  , 15K,FC,SAS) *24 , Cage1 (600GB , 15K,FC,SAS)*24 , can I use CPGS cross this two  Cages , have any performance issue ? thanks

From what little you say, it sounds like you started with a 7200c with 24 300GB drives. Then later have added a second cage with 24 600GB drives. Correct?

From a basic performance standpoint, you can have a CPG with all 48 drives in it. With all 48 drives, you will get better performance than with just the original 24. And, unless you have drive pattern filters on your CPGs, they already do use all 48 drives. Hopefully, when the second cage was added, tunesys was run one or more times to distribute what was on the original 24 drives across the 48 drives. Which would have improved the performance of any existing volumes. If not, any volumes created when you had the original 24 300GB drives will still be on just those 24.

What you need to be aware of is, all 48 drives are going to fill fairly evenly. When the 300GB drives fill up, any storage allocation after that time will of course be only on the 600GB drives. Performance on that portion of storage will be reduced compared to any volumes (technically Logical Disks) that are built across all 48 drives.

You can create a CPG that uses just the drives in Cage1. Put any volumes that do not need the improved performance there; this will at least delay the 300GB drives from filling up. For example: createcpg -p -cg 1 -ha mag -t r5 FC_r5_600GB

For each volume you want in the new CPG you will need to:

  1. Create a new matching volume in the new CPG,
  2. present the new volume to your host, and
  3. have the host copy everything from the old volume to the new volume. Which will mean stopping any application(s) using that volume while you are moving everything. If the application(s) use multiple volumes, you would need to have a matching new volume for each of them.
  4. Then unexport both the new and the old, and
  5. export the new back out with the LUN of the old volume. So the new volume takes the place of the old.
  6. Check the applications work correctly, and
  7. finally delete the old volume.

If you have a Dynamic Optimization license, you can avoid all of that and use tunevv to move volumes into the new CPG with no "down" time.
